Organization Type: Tissian Merchant-Consortium & Infernal Syndicate
The Vell Trading Company is a merchant syndicate of immense influence operating under the authority of the Elders of Tiss. In the wake of the Crimson Harvest (8218 DC), the Company has moved from mere traders to "Saviors of Necessity." By providing the fleet (including the Concordance) to escape Duke Guaicaipuro and the Vampire Court, they have effectively "purchased" the future of the surviving adventurers through binding maritime contracts.
Founding & Hierarchy
Founded: 8204 DC.
Headquarters: The Counting House, Fourth Bell Plaza, City of Tiss.
Patron Deity: Asmodeus, Lord of Contracts and Order.
The Chain of Filing:
Lord/Lady Merchant: (Thaddeus & Elara Vell)
Factors: Regional governors (currently eyeing the "vacant" seat in Port Aethelgard).
Agent: Frontline merchants, spies, or enforcers acting in Vell interests.
Audit-Brokers: Specialized in "Clarity Audits" to ensure debtors are compliant.
Ledger Clerks: Often Ysoki (Ratfolk) or indentured humans who track every gold piece.
Operations and Infrastructure
Headquarters The Company maintains its principal seat of power within Fourth Bell Plaza, the financial heart of Tiss. The building’s upper levels serve as private offices and meeting chambers, while its lower vaults house ledgers, relics, and imprisoned debts—both financial and spiritual. A notable feature of the headquarters is the office clock, which chimes four times each dusk during the Hour of Sealing. This is the precise moment when all new contracts must be either signed or burned.
Membership in the Vell Trading Company is viewed as both a privilege and a sentence. Initiate Employees must swear upon a "contract of blood and ink," binding them to absolute obedience through Asmodean pact magic. While many join the ranks seeking profit or protection, few ever truly leave the organization.
Resources and Assets The Company commands a vast array of resources across the world, including:
A fleet of trade galleons operating along the sea lanes of the North Sea, the Central sea, and the Eastern Ocean.
An expansive network of counting houses and safehouses located throughout major port cities.
Exclusive access to Tissian weapons stockpiles maintained via military trade contracts.
Arcane resources derived from their patronage under Asmodeus, which allow for limited pact magic and infernal communication.
"We do not conquer with armies. We conquer with agreements."
— Thaddeus Vell
