Noble Roles
Captain Percival Pemberton (Senior Captain, Tissian Iron-Fleet): Commands the heavily armored merchant-escort man-of-war The Crown Sovereign. A stern, tactical sea officer dressed in dark blue broadcloth who recruits adventurers to salvage coastal shipwrecks, clear maritime hazards, and scout shoreline encampments.
Lady Beatrice Pemberton (Director of Non-Church Resident Affairs & Agricultural Distribution): Oversees the bonded workforce, granaries, and rations with mathematical precision. Hires security escorts for supply convoys, investigates suspected grain theft, and resolves labor disputes among the farming populace.
Lord Edmund Ashworth (Factor of Continental Imports): Dapper, silver-tongued merchant lord managing high-volume Cherokee maize trade corridors. Hires armed escorts for incoming grain barges and issues bounties to disrupt rival smuggling rings.
Lord Bartholomew Weatherby (Master Assayer, Clock Tower Foundries): Oversees the capital’s smelting works, munitions vaults, and engineering workshops. Pays top coin for rare ores, sulfur deposits, and magical relics.
Lady Clara Harrington (High Commissioner of Foreign Pledges & Antiquities): High-society diplomat and intelligence broker managing foreign debts. Contracts scouts for covert reconnaissance on rival delegations, relic recovery expeditions, and counter-espionage against infiltrators.
Townsfolk characters (Male or Female)
The Oracle / Street Seer & Scroll Dealer: An enigmatic mystic dressed as a Victorian fortune teller (velvet cloaks, tarot cards, shawls, antique jewelry). Delivers cryptic prophecies, deciphers omens, and buys/sells magical scrolls.
Farming District Tavern Keeper: Runs the rustic tavern in the lower field safe zone for laborers, travelers, adventurers, and uninitiated residents. Costumed in Medieval British / Medieval French peasant attire (linen tunics, aprons, earth tones).
Noble Quarter Tavern Keeper: Manages the high-end establishment in the upper city for visiting nobility, merchants, and officials. Costumed in Victorian British formal attire.
High Clergy & Civil Authority (Church of Asmodeus)
High Priest / Priestess of the Church of Asmodeus (High Pontiff / Arch-Prelate of the Lex-Sanctum): The supreme spiritual and judicial authority of Tiss who holds the third chair alongside the Arbitrar-Generals. Roleplays high-stakes legal-religious trials, oversees civic oaths, dispenses infernal judgments, and serves as a major narrative quest broker for the state.
Monster & Encounter Roles
Spring-Heeled Jack: Urban phantom and elusive trickster stalking the shadowed alleys and outer perimeters. Relies on agility and sudden ambushes.
Victorian British Zombies: The reanimated dead of the island, dressed in tattered Victorian era attire. Located in the “Founders Graveyard”, and involved in several quests.
Vampire Emissary (Court of Lullin Diplomat): A high-ranking, calculating vampire noble (male or female) visiting Tiss on an official diplomatic delegation following the massacre and regime change at Lullin. Dressed in elegant, aristocratic formal wear; engages in high-stakes social maneuvering and covert intrigue while acting as a dangerous encounter threat outside polite company.
Rules Officials
In-Game Loremasters: Key non-combat rules officials who have a solid understanding of the game system, observe encounters, answer player questions, and make and communicate fair rulings on the fly.
Safety Guards (2–4 Positions): Dual-purpose marshals distinct from the in-game "city guard." They manage out-of-game physical safety, monitor player well-being, help conduct mandatory weapon/kit inspections, and have the authority to take in-game actions or intervene to resolve safety issues on the field.
