High Pontiff of the Church of Asmodeus of Tiss

Orlando Stewart stands at the absolute pinnacle of civic, judicial, and ecclesiastical

authority on the Isle of Tiss. While the five noble houses command commerce and ironclads, it is Orlando who occupies the physical seat beside the consecrated, empty Third Chair in the central Lex-Sanctum, representing the living voice of the Prime Cosmic Custodian, Asmodeus.

Rising through the ranks of the Clock Tower’s high chapter, Orlando distinguishes himself not through ferocious zealotry, but through an eerie, immovable serenity. He is a true believer in every sense: he does not revere Asmodeus out of fear or desperate survival, but out of absolute intellectual and spiritual conviction. To Orlando, the universe is inherently formless and prone to ruin, and Asmodeus’s inviolable law is the solitary mechanism preventing reality from dissolving into abyssal chaos.

Behind the heavy, brass blast doors of the innermost prayer chamber in the Great Clock Tower, Orlando communes directly with Asmodeus. These are not mere fevered visions or symbolic divinations; they are measured, bilateral audiences held with the Lord of the Ruby Rod. In these private councils, Orlando receives strategic mandates, reviews cosmic accountings, and studies the subtle, centuries-long ledger that guides the city-state.

Despite his fanatical devotion, Orlando is remarkably practical and patient. He holds no blind contempt for the gods of other pantheons; having studied the cosmic shifts of Shiandria, he knows full well that deities like Jupiter, the Dagda, and the Seven Moons are genuine, active powers. Yet, he views them as emotionally volatile and ultimately fragile. He teaches that rival gods need not be challenged in reckless holy wars; rather, with sufficient patience, cold planning, and binding legal maneuvers, even the oldest pantheons can be outmaneuvered, liquidated, or outlived.

In court and in conversation, Orlando is soft-spoken, exquisitely polite, and magnetic. He dresses in tailored, high-collared Victorian vestments of midnight black and crimson velvet, never raising his voice above a measured cadence. He understands that statecraft requires trade-offs: whether brokering a defense compact with Clan Gren or formalizing a nocturnal alliance with the Vampire Court of Lullin, Orlando negotiates with a warm smile, knowing that every concession made today binds the other party closer to the Church’s long-term ledger tomorrow.

The Words of the High Pontiff

"Welcome, travelers, merchants, and honored peers, to the peace of the Great Chime. Look upon our stone towers and balanced rows; you stand upon the only soil in this wild world where the morrow is guaranteed by the sanctity of ink. Order is not a chain to bind you, friends; it is the floor upon which civilization walks."

"Let the record show that the Church does not seek conquest of flesh. We seek only alignment. Where others bring war, we bring a treaty; where others leave ruin, we leave an audit. Let those who enter into compact with Tiss know this: our word is immutable, and the Lord of Contracts does not default."

"Praise the Tick, my children, for it logs your honest labor. But fear the Toll, for an account unsettled will balance itself in time."

"Do not weep for the ledger entry before us. In a realm of savage storms and hungry seas, peace is not an unearned gift; it is a purchase made upon an established interval. A single noble soul, willingly commuted, purchases ten years of calm for thousands of hearths. There is no cruelty here, only divine mathematics. Go forward, child of Tiss, and let your account be closed in glory."

"Lower your voice, good traveler. Passion burns hot, but it leaves only cold ash. Sit with me. Take a breath, state your terms clearly, and let us see where your ledger and mine can find agreement."

"I do not scorn your gods, my friend. Thor has his hammer, and the Silver Lady has her gentle rivers. They are magnificent. But tell me, when the stars turn cold and the centuries grind their temples down, what remains? Only the contract, waiting patiently in the dark for the debt to come due."

"Every kingdom must trade something away to endure. Some trade blood, some trade soil. We trade certainty. Do not let minor sentiment blind you to the grand equation."

"Death opened the door, poor soul, but your feet need not cross into the void. The Church has the power to recall your breath, but a loan of life requires an underwriting of service. Kneel, place your hand upon the seal, and let us write you back into the book of the living."
