Name:Â Rowan Thorne
Title:Â Journeyman-Master of the Forge
Culture:Â Dawn Lander (Home town of Hedgefield)
Current Location:Â Port Aethelgard
Background & History
The Anvil of Hedgefield Rowan grew up in the muddy, honest village of Hedgefield, the daughter of a blacksmith who saw the world in terms of iron and lineage. For years, Rowan was the true strength behind the village forge, mastering the rhythm of the bellows long before her younger brother was even a thought. She expected to inherit the soot and the steel, but tradition is a stubborn metal.
When her brother was born, the village elders and her own father made it clear: the forge was a man’s inheritance. Rowan didn't stay to be a "helper" in a shop she had built with her own sweat. She packed her hammer and left Hedgefield behind, heading for the jagged peaks of the Northern Mountains.
The Dwarven Grasp In the halls of the Alliance of Dwarven Clans, Rowan learned that stone and fire don't care about gender—only skill. She apprenticed under a Master Smith who saw her "soft" human hands and promised to make them as hard as the mountain. For years, she lived among the Dwarves, learning the patient, mathematical precision of their craft. She doesn't just "fix" tools; she understands the soul of the metal.
The Road to the Island Her journey took her through the rigid discipline of New Rome and the glittering politics of New Dawn, but she found both lacking. She sought a place where her work would speak louder than her history. She arrived at Port Aethelgard just as the Vell Trading Company began tightening its grip. She now runs the forge at the edge of town, keeping her head down and her hammer heavy.
Personality & Interactions
Dwarven Discipline:Â She often grumbles Dwarven idioms under her breath when a piece of iron is being stubborn. She treats her anvil with more respect than she treats the Governor.
The "Outsider" Connection: Because she spent so much time in the Northern Mountains, she has a natural affinity for the Norse players and a deep, quiet respect for the Ysoki—who she views as fellow "under-dwellers" and workers of the world.
The Conflict:Â She is currently at odds with the Tissian auditors. They want to tax her "imported" Dwarven techniques, while she simply wants to be left alone to work.
A Message from Rowan
"The forge is open. If your blades were dulled by the salt air or your armor was dented by whatever crawled out of the dark during your trek, bring it to me. I don't care who you are or what 'contracts' you carry—if you have the coin or the trade, I have the fire. Just don't ask me for a discount because you're a 'hero.' The coal doesn't burn any cheaper for a legend than it does for a laborer."— Rowan Thorne, Master Smith
