What is a merchant?
What is an NPC?
The Merchant: The Heart of the Market
A Merchant is a participant whose primary goal is to sell real, physical items for real money at the event site. This is the perfect role for participants who want to focus on selling their goods and engaging in the social side of the LARP without the pressures of combat or quests.
Cost: Merchants get a lower entry fee for the event.
XP & RP: They do not earn XP or Royalty Points (RP). Their reward is in the form of sales and the satisfaction of a successful business.
Gameplay: Merchants do not participate in battles, quests, or duels that take them away from their booths.
Questing: Merchants may have a role in quests, but only in a way that keeps them at their booth, such as being a source of information or a person a quest-giver sends a player to for a rare item. This helps them get more foot traffic and generate more sales.
The NPC: The Engine of the Game
An NPC is a participant who volunteers to play a character that is (usually) not their own or serves in a role that helps the game and the plot move forward. This is a vital role for the game's story. This is important characters, monsters, in game services (such as Loremasters), and things like that.
Cost: NPCs get a reduced ticket, but they are given rewards for their time and effort.
XP & RP: NPCs receive double normal XP and normal Royalty Points (RP) for their main character after the event.
Gold: NPCs get starting gold for their "usual" character, which is kept separate from any gold they earn as an NPC.
Gameplay: NPCs can participate in all aspects of the game, including battles, quests, and duels but follow a role and/or script dictated by administration.
Which Role is Right for You?
If you are a merchant who wants to also be an NPC and do both parts equally, you will need to get the NPC ticket. This allows you to fully engage in all aspects of the game while still having your booth.
If you want to be a merchant AND a player you will need to buy a player ticket.
However, if you want to primarily sell items at your booth as a merchant, and just do a little role-playing and accommodate questing on the side, you can still be a Merchant.
