The Lumberjack (v1.0)

Updated: Jul 11

In the untamed expanses of Shiandria, where primeval forests guard ancient secrets and the wilderness aggressively reclaims the ruins of old, the Lumberjack stands as civilization’s rugged frontline. Far more than mere laborers, these woodsmen are iron-willed pathfinders who carve out living space from the suffocating deep woods, transforming deadly briars and monstrous groves into defensible timber and fortified settlements. Equipped with heavy axes and a lifetime of calloused grit, the Lumberjack serves as the unbreakable muscle of an adventuring party—capable of enduring nature's harshest elements, breaking through impassable physical barriers, and turning the environment itself into a devastating weapon.

Cultures Allowed: The Lumberjack class is available to all cultures within the game, with the sole exceptions of the plains-dwelling Comanche and the subterranean Dark Elves who serve the Dark Lady.

Playing the Lumberjack: Playing a Lumberjack means embracing a high-risk, high-reward playstyle built on pure aggression, physical grit, and battlefield utility. While you possess unmatched devastation with an axe, your training values raw mobility and swinging power over defensive walls; you cannot use shields and are limited to wearing Level 1 armor. To offset this lighter defense, you focus entirely on offense. As your experience grows, you master the art of dual-wielding axes to completely overwhelm your foes. This class is a perfect fit for players who love being high-impact front-liners, and roleplaying rugged survivalists.

Abilities

  • Armor Allowed: Light Armor (level 1).

  • Weapons Allowed: Dagger, Knife, Stick, Club, Staff, One-handed Axe, Two-handed Axe, Dual One-handed Axes (unlocked at 4th level), and Pole Axe.

Level 1

  • Axe Throwing: You are highly skilled at hurling your tools with deadly accuracy. Up to 6 times per day (6x/day), you may throw any approved one-handed or two-handed axe, provided the weapon is safe and cleared by Marshals to be thrown. Pole axes are explicitly forbidden from being thrown. This ability can be renewed by a Smith.

  • Axe Mastery: Your familiarity with the weight, balance, and leverage of a felling blade makes you exceptionally lethal. You gain a permanent +1 damage bonus to one-handed axes and two-handed axes. This does not apply to pole axes or other weapon types.

Level 2

  • Field Maintenance: Living deep in the wilderness forces you to become entirely self-reliant. If any of your melee axes, throwing axes, or work tools are broken or broken by an enemy effect, you can repair them yourself on the fly. By spending 60 seconds of active roleplay physically sharpening the edge or resetting the wedge, the tool is fully restored. This applies strictly to your own axes and tools; it cannot repair armor, shields, or other weapon types or items belonging to other players, NPCs, or monsters.

  • Trailblazer: You are accustomed to clearing dense undergrowth to forge paths. Impassable foliage cannot slow you down. To use this feature, you must touch the plant or wooden obstacle with your axe, call out "Trailblazer!", and loudly count to 10. Once the count is complete, the obstacle is destroyed. If you are killed (reduced to 0 HP) or disrupted by an effect during the countdown, the ability fails. This works on plant or wooden barriers (such as a Farmer’s hedgerow) but has no effect on metal, river, or ocean obstacles. Usable 3 times per day (3x/day) and can be renewed.

Level 3

  • Cultural Ability

Level 4

  • Dual Wielding: You may now dual-wield one-handed axes. You retain the ability to throw one or both of these axes. This fighting style is always active and does not need to be renewed, though throwing the axes still consumes your daily Axe Throwing uses.

  • Survey the Canopy: Your tracking and forestry skills grant you an innate sense of the wilderness. You automatically receive a copy of the Ranger's map at the start of each event.

Level 5

  • Clear-Cut: You swing with the devastating momentum of a felling crew leveling a grove. When you strike a target who is not wielding a shield, if your blow deals enough total damage to reduce their remaining HP to 0, any leftover damage is not wasted. Instead, the remaining damage cleanly cuts through and is immediately applied to the next closest enemy standing directly behind the original target. This only works with a single axe (not dual-wielding) and loudly call out "Clear-Cut!". Usable 3 times per day (3x/day) and can be renewed.

Level 6

  • Cultural Ability

Level 7

  • Carver Lord: You earn the prestigious rank and title of Carver Lord. Due to your labors between events, you receive an additional 10 GP at the check-in of each event. Furthermore, your permanent damage bonus to one-handed and two-handed axes increases to +2 damage (but not pole axes).

  • Timber!: With a mighty shout, you simulate the crushing force of a falling redwood by hurling a heavy log (represented by a safe, Marshall-approved bundle of pool noodles tied or taped together). Because of its massive momentum, this throwing prop completely ignores all shields and armor protection. Any target the flying bundle physically touches takes 4 points of damage. This damage applies to every single target the prop strikes or bounces into during its flight. Usable 3 times per day (3x/day). You may renew your uses during downtime or between quests by roleplaying a trip to a forest or lumber yard to prep a fresh log.

Level 8

  • Heart of Oak: Like the unyielding core of an ancient tree, your body stubbornly refuses to fall. When a strike or effect would normally reduce you to 0 HP, or place you in a dying or unconscious state, you can instantly defy defeat by loudly shouting "Heart of Oak!". Your HP is immediately set to 1 instead of dropping, and you gain a temporary 10-second window of total immunity to all incoming damage. This offers a final chance to land a desperate blow or safely retreat to a healer. Usable once per day (1x/day) and CANNOT be renewed.

  • Relentless Cleave: Your combat momentum is unstoppable. When you swing your axe and call out "Clear-Cut!", your blow is so powerful that it physically fractures the front line. The strike deals its full damage to both the first target you hit and a second adjacent target immediately next to or behind them, regardless of whether the first target drops. Both players take the full brunt of the attack. This is usable three times per day (3x day) and can be renewed. This replaced Clear Cut.

Level 9

  • Cultural Ability

Level 10

  • First Axe of the Forest: You achieve the ultimate rank of First Axe. At the start of each event, you receive 20 GP for your labors between events. Additionally, your deep connection to the woods allows you to read and cast Nature Scrolls.

  • Heartwood Paragon: Your long years of physical labor permanently harden your body and sharpen your strikes. You gain a permanent +1 HP to your maximum health pool, and your damage bonus to one-handed and two-handed axes (but not pole axes) increases to +3 damage.
